Four couples, friends since college, had vacationed together every year as their respective families grew. Then, as ’empty nesters, they decided to pool their resources and build a permanent camp on a ten acre site adjoining the Llano River. Initially they planned to build a single, shared vacation home, but quickly realized that individual cabins would allow personalisation while still embracing the camaraderie of the past.
The design brief was for simple, low maintenance cabins within an per cabin budget of $40,000. Using corrugated iron externally and raw ply and polished concrete internally, the architect has managed a modern result with a rustic, warm, welcoming feel.
