By the Way House stands on a large plot of secluded land near a river. A long driveway leads to and from the house, winding its way through the topography. The architects used this ribbon of road as a tectonic element. It peels itself up from the ground, wrapping the structure. It then continues on to become the walls, roof, and ceiling of the home.

A ribbon of road is one of the main features of the By the Way House.

The entry road leads straight to the living room raised off the ground. It then unrolls as a pier, running towards the river. An all-glass garage at the lower level gives the house a floating appearance. This adds further visual interest to the already fascinating structure.

The house boasts of modern and chic interiors with stunning views all around.

By the Way House is a modern, ultra-chic home that showcases how limitless imagination can be. In essence, the home is a masterful combination of aesthetics and function in a truly impressive setting.

Notes from the Architect:

Our client had a beautiful, huge plot on the hill near the river. He had also some strange wishes: to copy his existing, a bit boring interiors from his previous flat and put living space on the 1st floor.

The main inspiration turned out to be the road, which had to be there anyway to reach the middle of the plot, where the house was planned to stand. We thought, what would happen if we lifted “the way” and “wrapped it around” these ugly interiors. Then we brought it back to the garden level, leading it trough the steep hill to reach the river, in the same time not cutting out any tree.

The road shaped the entire building – its floors, walls and ceilings, becoming the main motif of the project. Apparently absurd customer wishes resulted with incredible view from the living room and thanks to this idea we managed to connect living space with the garden and gain much more.
