The Cloud House

Melbourne Australia   –  McBride Charles Ryan

Take a much renovated, century old house in a great location, add in a young, new family with very different needs and you get The Cloud House.

A unique view…
A unique view…

When you view the modest façade of this home, it is impossible to imagine the extent of the changes and additions behind the door.  With a south facing backyard, the architects were mindful of the necessity of getting northern sun and light and maximum cross-ventilation into the home. The original section of home is mostly a modest white with only the carpet hinting at what is to come.  As we move down the hall, we are confronted with a red wall, behind which is the kitchen, the centre of the house. Beyond the kitchen we move into the imagination with a child-like cloud formation enveloping us.

The Cloud House leaves no-one unmoved.  Love it or hate it, it works well for the owners and has the potential to be an architectural marvel for many years to come.
