Straw Bale House

Byron Bay, NSW, Australia – Rachel Bending

Rachael Bending’s Bird Textiles was the first Australian company to be 100% climate-neutral.  She’s earned a swag of awards for her pioneering earth-friendly approach to her business. That same attitude is reflected in the home you see here.

Straw Bale House

The owners wanted a totally sustainable home for themselves and future family.  After six years of planning and, finally, building, this home ticks all the boxes.  It uses solar panels, solar hot water, is constructed from local materials, has a composting toilet system, reed beds for grey water and, of course, catches all roof water.
