From Warehouse to Courtyard Home

Light industrial suburb – Toronto CA  Studio Junction

Photography: Rob Fiocca

Peter Tan and Christine Ho Ping of architectural and design firm, Studio Junction, transformed an old contractor’s warehouse into a home and studio for themselves and their children. With nothing externally to view, they turned the focus of the house inwards, structuring the various areas around a courtyard and a second-floor terrace.

The home has a simple and relatively open plan with the extensive use of timber giving the home a feeling of great warmth and openness.

The home is a great example of urban recycling rather than demolition. Expect to see a lot more of this as small manufacturing moves offshore to remain competitive.
