Fayette County Pennsylvania USA Frank Lloyd Wright
No other architect in modern history has been as influential as Frank Lloyd Wright. Yet at 70 years of age, he had virtually slipped into obscurity. Fallingwater bought him back.
Recognized as his most acclaimed and famous work, it is listed as one of the “50 places of a lifetime” by National Geographic. The Smithsonian lists it in it’s Life List of 28 places “to visit before you die” and in 1991, members of the American Institute of Architects named the house the “best all-time work of American architecture”.
Times have changed and it’s possible that the site on which the house is built – a waterfall on Bear Run would be protected from development today. It wasn’t then and we have this incredible piece of design as a result – a design drawn in the back seat of a car during a two hour journey!
We’ll let the home speak for itself, however a detailed history of the house can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallingwater for those as insanely in love with this place as we are :)
