A protected environment and a very steep site called for a radical design. The home sites below road level with no viable access from below due to both the steepness and the environment. The solution was to pour the columns in-situ and then prefabricate the floors and walls which sit on four enormous steel joists.
The design allows every room access to the view and the prevailing breezes while also providing outdoor living areas where none would otherwise exist.
“The terrace on top is at same level of the street. A bridge connects the street to the main entrance of the house, allowing different views of the sea, of the hill and of the trees. Besides preserving a natural landscape, this hanged house actually floats among the trees, surrounded by birds and open towards the sea.
In other words, this is a house that can smell, hear and see.”
